Elijah Mays
DNP, FNP-BC

Dr. Elijah Mays, Jr grew up in Colleton County, South Carolina. Growing up in rural South Carolina, he had no idea he would have a career in healthcare. After attending the University of South Carolina and graduating in 2000, he started working for a small HMO in Columbia, South Carolina. After leaving that position, he began working as a Unit Secretary in the Emergency Department at Providence Hospital in 2005. Later, he would receive on-the-job training to become a CNA in the step-down ICU. After much encouragement from his wife and several nurses in the ICU and step-down ICU, he decided to pursue a career in Nursing. The journey was not easy but he persevered. He earned his Associates Degree in Nursing in 2010 from Midlands Technical College, then his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2013 from Lander University and finally, his Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Nursing in 2020 from Medical University of South Carolina. He is excited to be working in Family Practice and looks forward to building meaningful, long-lasting partnerships and relationships with his patients. Dr. Mays has one publication, “Increasing Vitamin B12 Screening Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes on Long Term Metformin Therapy”.

In his spare time, Dr. Mays enjoys reading, working in his yard, and spending time with his family.
